3rd Day

Hello Anak,

This is our third day here at the Asian Hospital, Alabang, as your Nanay was diagnosed to have Dengue. Dengue is one of the feared sickness in our times; no vaccination is available as of yet.

Anyway, your Nanay is now getting more stable - Thank God! Her platelet count has improved from 23x10^9 last Tuesday night, to 86x10^9 this Friday morning. We would have not gotten through this experience without our prayers, as well as the prayers of lots of our friends and relatives. Dengue does not have any medication except: 1. hydration, and 2. blood transfusion. The doctor, Dr. Edwin Dimatatac, told us as early as Tuesday to find people who are willing to donate Type B+ blood to be used for transfusion...and so we did. We sent SMS to a lot of people and alas, we figured out that we have so many friends and relatives who care about us so dearly. The guys who had the most impact though are your Lolo Vhio Esguerra and your Tito Wilson Ocampo. Both of them had contacts at the Phil Natl Red Cross, Intramuros, Manila. That Tuesday midnight, I drove to pick-up 6 bags of Type B+ platelet concentrate. Parallel to this though, your Nanay is being prepared to have Frozen Plasma transfusion as interim if ever no platelet concentrate is available. She had 1 and a half bags of plasma transfusion.

After which, yes, we believe it is a miracle! Your Nanay did not need any other transfusions. Considering that it was only the plasma that was transfused, her platelet count has improved significantly! We are hoping to be discharged tomorrow, Saturday so that we can go out again to your favorite weekend get-away, the Mall! :)

I'll pause for a while Anak and will tell you some more details a bit later...tawag ako ni Nanay mo.

Thank God, Praise God!

love,
Tatay
